Vintage 18K gold Arthus Bertrand Aries Ram head medal

For sale a rare French Vintage 18K gold Aries Zodiac Medal by the French Maison Arthus Bertrand.

The medal features a beautiful green plique a jour enamel on which a ram head is shown, symbolising the Zodiac symbol of Aries. The lighter yellowish green color of the ram contrasts beautifully and softly with the enamel on the background. The enamel on this medal is also in perfect vintage condition without any crack or missing, which is rare to find today.

Every detail, from the intricate contours of the ram's features to the flawless enamel surface, speaks volumes of the craftsmanship of the French Maison Arthus Bertrand, highly reputed for creating gold medals in France since 1902s.

The medal is stamped with the French eagles’s head for 18K gold as well with the maker’s mark. The chain on the photos is not included in the sale.

Plique-à-jour is a technique for applying enamel, similar to that of cloisonné, but without a metal background in its final state, so that the light can filter through transparent or translucent enamel. It is considered very challenging to obtain due to the technical difficulties as well as the significant time to produce.
