Victorian era 18K gold onyx pearl archaeological revival style drop earrings

€0

For sale a beautiful pair of archaeological revival style earrings dated back to circa 1860s, the Victorian era.

From the earrings, we can tell that the Greek and Etruscan art not only influenced the jewelry production in shape and design during that period, but also in the goldsmith techniques. Engraving and chasing disappeared in favour of contrasts between shiny and matt surfaces, encrusted with filigree and granulation.

Looking closely at the earrings, you will find the delicate floral motifs made of the fine gold wires on the top gold balls; while on the bottom lozenge shaped part, tiny gold granulations consisting of minute gold spheres all around the black onyx and pearl center. The contrast of the color and the texture as well as the great amount attention paid to the details all demonstrate very high quality of craftsmanship of a bygone era.

The earrings are stamped with the French owl hallmark for 18K gold on each side and they drop gracefully when they are worn, making them not only a solid piece for daily wear, but also a special and unique jewelry which will make you shine during some more formal occasions.

The antique earring box in the photos are for display only, the earrings will be sent in a new jewelry box.
