Curiously timeless
Very sentimental French antique silver enameled Swallow rose flower locket pendant
For sale a very beautiful French work antique silver locket, featuring a very refined enameled swallow flying over the roses. We love the swallow’s long graceful wings colored in a beautiful pastel blue with a light touch of pink, echo back to the rose flowers. The enamel on the wings achieve a light and bright look of the real feathers. The locket brings an extreme attention to details, applying different shades with nuance (black on the eyes of the swallows, greenish yellow on his body, rose on his head…etc.) The flowers are equally lively and detailed, showing an excellent craftsmanship. The locket dated back to the early 20th century, the Art Nouveau era.
Because the swallow chooses one mate for life, to the Victorians, it was a symbol of enduring love and loyalty. The swallow also represents a safe return home. Sea voyages during this period were long, arduous, and dangerous. When a sailor spotted this land bird, he knew that land and home would not be far off. To connect the swallow to the roses brings more sentimental meanings to this lovely locket.
The roses and the bird are emotionally connected together, incorporating a very eye-catching and sensual design. All together, they also create more sentimental meanings to the medaillon. The locket opens and closes well, allowing you to insert something you treasured.
It will be a wonderful & sentimental gift to offer or to receive.
