Rare French 19th century 18k gold blue opaline perfume bottle pendant

€0

For sale a very rare French antique 18k gold perfume bottle made of beautiful turquoise blue opaline crystal. It is dated back to the early 19th century, circa 1830s. The bottle opens and closes well with its little stopper inside.

Opaline is a glass art. It is a mixture of silica to which bone or horn ashes are added, brought to fusion. This is what gives it its unique color! The first opaline were spotted around the 16th century in Venice. It was not until the 18th century that the manufacture of glass and opaline crystal spread to France. In those times, it was used for the manufacture of dishes, vases or other decorative objects which were considered to be luxury items.

Perfume bottles were used to wash the face. Also, when the woman fainted (usually due to their tight clothes), they served as a first-aid-kit with the help of the aromatic smells they contain, which are usually made from lavender or colchicum.

As beautiful as a small objet d’art, this rare perfume bottle pendant will create evocative sensory experience, by re-connecting moments in time with one drop and one breath.

The other 18K gold rounded perfume bottle in the picture is also for sale in our shop. The chain is not included in the listing.
