Curiously timeless

Magnificent Victorian 18K gold rose cut diamonds onyx pansy flower medaillon pendant

€0

Magnificent is the first word come to mind when looking at this gorgeous 18K gold Pansy flower medaillon pendant, made of 9 rose cut diamonds on a black onyx panel. The sculptured pansy flower has a three-dimensional relief contour, reflecting very unique and excellent craftsmanship. It must be one of the most beautiful antique pansy pendants we’ve ever seen during the past few years! The noble material used in the design, large size, hefty weight as well as the sentimental meanings it conveys make this piece an absolute statement piece.

The name pansy comes from the French word penser, meaning to “to think”. Give pansies as a gesture of friendship and platonic love is wildly used during the Victorian era. While black onyx is showing up a lot in antique jewelry as a dramatic contrast against diamonds, making this pansy flower timeless striking in its simplicity.

Sometimes melancholy, always mysterious, according to mythology, onyx was formed when Cupid came upon Venus sleeping on the banks of the Indus River and decided to trim her fingernails. They drifted to the bottom of the river and so became onyx, a stone of divine origin.

The symbolism of the pansy flower, together with the choice of onyx make us believe that the pendant was designed to be a mourning jewelry: always “penser” (think about) the person we love the most in the world.
