Magnificent French Antique 18K gold Griffon brooch with diamond

€0

The griffin, griffon, or gryphon is a legendary creature with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and sometimes an eagle's talons as its front feet.

Because the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts, and the eagle the king of the birds, by the Middle Ages, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. Since classical antiquity, griffins were known for guarding treasures and priceless possessions.

Toward the close of the 19th century French jewelers created a golden bestiary of fantastic creatures and mythical animals. In front of us a magnificent French Art Nouveau era Griffon brooch, made in solid 18K gold. We love its large & lively wings, fearless facial expressions and the sparkling diamond it keeps preciously in his mouth, a true treasure guardian! The diamond’s weight is estimated at 0.2ct. The back of the brooch is also beautifully engraved with detailed patterns imitating the feathers of the wings. The whole piece is very eye-catching, luxurious and impressive.
