Magnificent bejeweled French antique 18K gold malachite ribbon egg pendant

€0

Bejeweled eggs have been a traditional gift ever since Peter Carl Fabergé created the first Imperial Fabergé Egg for the Russian Tsar Alexander III to give to his wife Empress Maria Feodorovna in 1885. Knowing that eggs are not just for Easter, they’ve been since the antique eras the symbol of fertility and the beginning of all life.

In front of us a magnificent bejeweled egg made of a big & beautiful natural malachite, topped off with a jauntily tied golden bow. The golden ribbon and the bow are made of 18k yellow gold textured with floral motifs. The malachite conveys the natural asymmetric waved patterns, with a stated desire to capture the irregularity of the universe. We adore the lovely combination of the green and yellow colors, as well as the mix of the matte and smooth textures from the different materials. The pendant has a large bail which allows you to attach it into different types of chains. The design is festival, rare and enchanting. The pendant dated back to the late 19th century.

So, this end of year, why not indulge yourself with one of these luxurious bejeweled eggs and rest assured that once the chocolate frenzy has died down, your jewelry treasure will continue to bring you joy all year round.

Malachite is an opaque gem with a strong bluish green to green color. It typically shows curved or circular banding (in varying shades of green) that gives it a distinctive beauty. It has a long history as a gem: It was found by early civilizations as they emerged from the Stone Age. The Egyptians used malachite for jewelry and other ornamental purposes as early as 4000 Bc. In the Middle Ages (from about 500 to 1500 AD) people in Europe often hung malachite on cradles to assure peaceful sleep for their children and protect them from witchcraft. People wore pieces with eye shaped markings as amulets to ward off the “evil eye.”

The chain in the photo is not included in this listing but can be purchased separately in the shop.
