Boxed French Vintage Augis “more than yesterday less than tomorrow” 18K gold medal
Built upon a romantic French poetry, this French vintage 18K gold Augis medal is precious not only thanks to its sentimental meanings, but also because it comes with its original box, which is rare to find today. Inside of the box it is written the famous poetry by Rosemonde Gerard “ Car vois-tu chaque jour, je t’aime advantage. Aujourd’hui plus qu’hier et bien moins que demain”.
On the medal, it is engraved in French: «+ qu’hier – que demain », meaning : I love you more than I did yesterday and less than I will tomorrow. The “more” sign is made of a rose cut diamond and the “less” sign is made of 3 synthesized rubies. The back of the medal is not engraved so it is possible to personalize the medal for its future caretaker. The medal is signed by A.A and stamped with the French eagle’s head hallmark for 18K gold.
Behind the story: the French saying comes from the poem wrote by Mrs. Rosemonde Gerard to her lover and husband: Edmond Rostand, the famous French writer of Cyrano de Bergerac, a dramatic love play. Alphonse Augis, a famous French jeweler from Lyon, made a love medal with this verse written on it. It has become one of the most collectible pieces of jewelry and welcomed by the collectors from all over the world. The first Augis love token/medal appears in 1907.
