Antique French 18K gold blue sapphire diamond snake head brooch
An exceptional Victorian-era 18K yellow gold snake brooch, beautifully crafted with intricate detailing that imitates the natural texture of the serpent’s scales. The head is set with seven cushion-cut natural blue sapphires (approx. 1ct total), displaying a rich, well-saturated royal blue color, while 2 sapphire cabochons form the expressive eyes. Remarkably, the craftsmanship captures even the finest details, with the serpent’s tiny teeth and delicate tongue visible within its open mouth.
The design is further enhanced by 24 rose-cut diamonds (approx. 0.95 carats total), adding an antique sparkle.
In the 19th century, snake motifs were highly popular in jewelry, symbolizing eternity, love, and renewal—making this piece not only visually captivating but also rich in meaning.
Luxurious and finely executed, this brooch was likely a bespoke commission, making it a rare and elegant example of Victorian craftsmanship and a timeless investment piece. The brooch bears both the French patent hallmark (Bte SGDG) and the French owl hallmark for 18K gold.
