Currently enjoying a fashionable revival, brooches always remain one of our favorite jewelry types thanks to its versatile styles as well as its rich history in the jewelry making industry.

For sale a beautiful almandine garnet cabochon brooch made in 18K yellow gold from the Victorian era. This type of design of circular brooches with bosses at the center was very popular in the 1860s. The central dome formed garnet (which is also called Carbuncle) measures 15mm in diameter and it conveys a deep red color which recalls us of a glass of wine. The color is translucent under the sun light, adding a lot more magic to the piece. The garnet is surrounded by 30 dazzling rose cut diamonds. They have a combined weight which is estimated at approximately 0.6 carats.

Almandine garnet is among one of the most favorited gemstones during the 19th century. It was named for Alabanda, an ancient Asian town and an active gemstone trading and fashioning center. Ancient Romans often fashioned almandine garnets as hollowed cabochons to bring out the intensity of their color.
