Antique 18K Gold Diana Hunter and the deer pendant
Discover this lovely 19th century 18K gold pendant, showcasing the goddess Artemis (Diana) with her deer, using the technique called "verre églomisé".
Artemis, known as Diana in Roman mythology, is the revered goddess of the hunt, wilderness, and protector of wildlife. Often depicted with a moon on her head and a deer by her side, she symbolizes purity and the untamed beauty of nature.
The pendant is crafted using the ancient technique of “verre églomisé” (englomisé glass), which dates back to Antiquity. This meticulous process involves placing a thin sheet of gold beneath glass, with the design executed in dry point and encased by a secondary layer or glass plate. Despite its delicate nature—prone to fragility due to its glass support and the tendency of gold to deteriorate over time—this piece remains in overall good antique condition.
The pendant is stamped with French eagle’s head hallmark for 18K gold on the bale.
