Victorian era 18K gold Figa holding a snake with apple pendant
RESERVED, please do not buy. The amount is the rest to pay after the deposit.
For sale a very rare Victorian era, 18K gold pendant, featuring a figa (hand) holding a snake. In the mouth a snake is a red enameled appel. The Figa is made in shell, with gold enamel decoration on the nails.
According to the Christian Bible story of Adam and Eve, a snake tempted Eve with a forbidden apple, which led to the birth of original sin. For this reason, snakes can represent temptation and sin. A hand holding the snake tightly is seen as an amulet against evil and against our own temptation.
The subject rare and the craftsmanship impressive, it is a wonderful antique pendant to add into your collection.
