Frédéric de Vernon Art Nouveau 18K gold diamond “Goddess of the night” brooch
Introducing a rare Frédéric de Vernon signed, Art Nouveau 18K gold brooch, embodying the spirit of the "Goddess of Night." This remarkable piece features the goddess delicately placing an old European cut diamond star (estimated weight of approximately 0.15ct) atop her head, while six smaller rose-cut diamonds gracefully accent her flowing hair. These shimmering diamonds add a celestial look, capturing the ethereal beauty and elegance of the goddess.
Jewelry from the Art Nouveau period often drew on motifs from Greek and Roman art, celebrating the human form with refined detail and a renewed appreciation for nature. This brooch exemplifies that vision, with its naturalistic design and the goddess’s serene expression, crafted with skillful attention to the era’s avant-garde style.
Referenced in jewelry books such as the “Tadema Gallery” (pg. 27), this brooch is a rare historical treasure. Ideal for collectors of antique jewelry, it beautifully encapsulates the creativity and craftsmanship of the early 1900s: a true keepsake from the Art Nouveau era.
Vernon's signature on the surface of the brooch. The brooch is also stamped with the French eagle’s head hallmark for 18k gold on the c-catch.
