Curiously timeless

Lovely French work Victorian era 18k Gold Garnet Dangle Earrings

€0

These darling 18k gold antique sleeper earrings beautifully feature one purplish red garnet, in the center of a gold flower on each side. The earrings have a very refined millegriffe border, which is typical to the Victorian era. Garnet was popular with the Greeks and Romans. It was prominent in jewelry of the Victorian era (1837- 1901), but some of the rarest species are now in short supply. Collectors of antique jewelry prize the elaborate Victorian jewelry set with garnet, for their beautiful color as well as for the versatile look they are able to create.

These earrings have the “back-to-front” system for pierced ears. The system works very well and secure even today.

The sleeper earrings (or dormeuse in French) were often worn to bed to keep the earlobe hole from closing during the mourning period of Queen Victorian, when ears were covered by hair and could not be seen. They are hence very comfortable to be worn and can be paired easily with any outfit. They will be a lovely gift to offer or to receive in the new year!
