Georgian era rose cut diamond Flemish cross pendant

€0

For sale a large & rare antique Flemish cross pendant dated back to the late 18th century, the Georgian era.

Between 1770 and 1840, this type of cross was made in Flanders for women to wear it on a velvet ribbon high on their necks. The design of the cross varies slightly among the different regions but the Flemish cross is recognizable by its typical diamond leaves around the central motif, bezel claw and gold foiled back setting of the diamonds, all typical to that era. These crosses were popular both in the north of the France and in Belgium.

On the cross, there are in total 23 rose cut diamonds. The large central diamond measures 6mm in diameter and weights approximately 0.55cts. The rest of the diamonds weight approximately 1.2cts. As most of the diamonds in antique jewelry, they were cut to have wider facets to shine brightly under the candle light – a unique feature that can only be found from the jewelry of the bygone era. The diamonds are mounted in silver and then backed with 18K yellow gold. The bale of the pendant is also made in 18K gold.

Whether or not you are looking for a special cross to demonstrate your faith, this beautiful and rare antique diamond cross, with its symbolic elements, is a treasure that everyone can give it their own meaning.
