Boxed Victorian era 18K gold natural pearls agate cameo pendant brooch
This exquisite Victorian era cameo is a stunning piece of jewelry that is sure to capture the attention of any admirer. It can be worn as a pendant as well as a brooch.
Crafted on two layers of agate, the cameo depicts a woman’s profile with delicate features and flowing hair. The carving is incredibly intricate and detailed, highlighting the skill of the artist who created it. The two butterfly wings in her hair add an extra layer of meaning and symbolism to the piece: the wings are a symbol of the Greek goddess Psyche, who is often depicted with butterfly wings to represent her transformation from mortal to immortal.
In Greek mythology, Psyche was the goddess of the soul. Born a mortal woman, her beauty rivaled that of Aphrodite (Venus) and inspired the love of Aphrodite's son, Eros, God of desire. She underwent trials and tribulations before ultimately being transformed into a goddess herself, representing the journey of the soul towards enlightenment and spiritual transformation.
The pendant brooch is mounted in 18K yellow gold and the frame & bale of the pendant are adorned with white natural seed pearls, which add a touch of timeless beauty and luxury. The bale of the pendant can be removed when the piece is worn as a brooch. We also love the fact that the bale is large enough to pass through almost any types of chains.
The cameo comes in its original fitted box (Charlin, 5 boulevard des italiens, Paris), which is rare and which adds value to the jewelry. We feel always very grateful when we found antique jewelry still in their original boxes, it is the prove that the piece was loved and kept with care since many of those boxes are designed specially to protect the jewelry and ensure that it remains in excellent condition for years to come.
For any antique jewelry lover or cameo collector, this cameo brooch is a wonderful piece to collect or to offer.
The pearl necklace on the photos is not included in the offer but can be found in our shop under separate listing.
