Antique 18K gold snakes and eagle signet ring

€0

For sale a 19th century 18K gold signet ring, featuring double snakes and an eagle.

At first glance, the intertwined serpents evoke the imagery of the caduceus, the emblem of Hermes in Greek mythology, symbolizing commerce, negotiation, and eloquence. Yet, delve deeper, and one may see a battle unfolding before their eyes. The eagle, a symbol of strength and freedom, stands poised amidst the entwined serpents, perhaps engaged in a timeless struggle. No matter how it is interpreted, the ring creates a scene rich in symbolism and mystery.

The ring is stamped with the French owl hallmark for 18K gold.

The signet ring has its origins 4,000 years ago and it was first worn to show the wearer’s social class. It was also used to impose its authority or to seal commercial transactions. Moreover, jewels represented, for the Egyptians, a protection against the threats.

The ring is resizable at buyer’s cost, please contact us before passing your order.
