Georgian era 18K gold woven gold necklace with two cameos

€2,600

Only 1 piece in stock!

For sale an exceptional 18K gold necklace from early 19th century, a true testament to the impressive goldsmith skills of that era. This remarkable piece features two beautiful shell cameos, each showcasing a different profile, delicately carved in two layers. The exquisite detail of the carvings captures the eye, but it is the intricate frame that also sets this necklace apart. The cameos are encased in a cannetille setting adorned with granulation, a highly popular filigree technique from the 1810s to 1830s. They are reserved in very good antique condition without missing on the granulation.

The necklace itself is a masterpiece of artistry. Crafted from intricately woven gold, it forms a circular chain that drapes like a light and soft tissue against the skin when worn. The closing of the necklace is found between the two cameos which allows the versatile necklace be styled in two ways: with the cameos displayed in front or reversed to showcase the stunning gold craftsmanship under the spotlight. Please see photos. The 4 round shaped links between the cameos and the necklace may be a later addition/replacement to the necklace.

This necklace is a rare treasure, seldom seen in today's market, and a must-have for true collectors of Georgian antique jewelry.
