French Antique 18K gold agate female portrait cameo brooch

Cameos are works of miniature sculptural art. Their original purpose is lost in history but of the countless ancient examples of the sculptor’s and carver’s craft, none offers such a unique window through which to view the cultural past.

For sale a refined French agate cameo brooch, featuring an elegant female profile in the classical Greek style, with flowers in her braid. The brooch is dated back to the late 19^th century, circa 1880s, the Victorian era.

The cameo portrait measures 25mm in height and 17mm in width while the brooch measures 32mm* 23mm. The agate cameo is mounted in 18K yellow gold with a push-pull safety (Trombone) closing system. The brooch is dated back to the late 19^th century, the Victorian era. There is an inscription of the year “1882” on the back of the cameo. It can be attached on a ribbon to be wear as a pendant as well.

Measurements and Condition

In overall good antique condition; No crack or missing on the agate. Slight traces of use.

A hallmark on the pin of the brooch and the brooch is also acid tested for 18K gold.
