Antique 14k gold rose cut diamond flower basket brooch

€860

Only 1 piece in stock!

For sale a beautiful flower basket diamond brooch, with a definite nod to the romanticism of a bygone era.

The brooch combines rose cut diamonds with an enchanting floral design. The biggest rose cut diamond on the flower measures 6mm in diameter and it weights approximately 0.25ct. The two smaller diamonds on the flower have a total estimated weight of 0.2ct. Several rose cut accents are equally used to decorate the leaves of the flowers and the basket. They are all mounted in silver and foiled back, which is very popular during the 18th/beginning of the 19th century. The pin of the brooch is probably placed later; it is stamped with the oak leaf hallmark for 14k gold, which was used in the Netherland.

One of the oldest styles of diamond cutting, the rose cut emerged in Europe in the 1500s. Unlike the more rigid design parameters that dictate the number of facets on a round brilliant-cut diamond, rose-cut diamonds can have anywhere from three to 24 facets. Named after its shape, which resembles that of a rose bud, the cut features a flat bottom with a dome-shaped crown that rises to a single apex. Many are foiled back in the antique jewelry to show a beautiful soft shimmer under the candle light.
